L.I. Mom Gives Birth To Premature Twin Boys At Bus Stop
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Newborn twins on Long Island apparently couldn't wait to make their grand entrance.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, new mom Mariejunia Ally, 33, went into labor about two months early as she was waiting for the bus to work in Elmont around 6:40 a.m. Friday.
The baby boys came so fast Ally had to deliver the first baby herself, Ally's sister Joanne Severe-Dildy said.
"The baby came like right in her hand. The people that were around, they say, 'everything is OK?' And she told them 'no, no no, there's a second one coming,'" she told Hall.
Three police officers and four Ambulance Medical Technicians arrived a short time later and helped deliver the second baby, who needed CPR to help him start breathing.
"Marie was just about pulling the baby out...and that's when she advised me she was having twins and that's when I requested a second ambulance to come," paramedic Nicholas Pignatano said.
The second baby was born in an ambulance, CBS 2's John Slattery reported.
The boys, named Justin and Jayden, and their mom were taken to Winthrop University Hospital where they're doing well.
The smiling mom thanked the AMTs from her hospital bed later Friday.
"She wants to say thank you from the bottom of her heart. She really appreciates it and she's so happy to see you guys," Severe-Dildy said.
The twins, who weigh about three pounds each, need to spend about a month in the hospital but will be OK, Hall reported.
Ally also has a 15-year-old daughter.
