Police: KKK Fliers Left On Cars At Hospital In Patchogue, Nearby Apartment Complex
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Fliers promoting the Ku Klux Klan were left on cars parked at a Long Island hospital and nearby apartment complex on Friday, police said.
Hate crimes detectives are now investigating after Suffolk County police were called to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue at around 1 p.m. on Friday. A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
Although the hate crimes unit is investigating, a police spokesman said the incident does not appear to be a criminal act.
This isn't the first time KKK fliers have been distributed in towns on Long Island.
In November, KKK recruitment fliers were left on cars in Hampton Bays, to the dismay of many residents. Police also launched a similar investigation in September, 2014 after KKK fliers were found in West Babylon and Shirley.
