Kerry Kennedy's Drugged Driving Trial Moved To Westchester County Court
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A judge has ruled that the single courtroom in a small suburban town can't handle the drugged-driving trial of Kerry Kennedy.
The district's administrative judge said Wednesday that the case must be moved to the Westchester County courthouse in White Plains.
He agrees with Kennedy's lawyers that there are obstacles to holding a high-profile trial in the town courtroom in Armonk. He says it has no jury box, no tables for the lawyers and not enough seats or bathrooms.
Defense attorney Gerald Lefcourt praised the decision. The district attorney's office took no position.
After an accident in July 2012, tests found a small amount of Ambien in Kennedy's blood. She says she accidentally took a sleeping pill.
Kennedy's Lexus had swerved across Interstate 684 in North Castle and clipped a tractor-trailer.
Kennedy is Sen. Robert Kennedy's daughter and President John Kennedy's niece. She is also Gov. Andrew Cuomo's ex-wife.
Kennedy and Cuomo married in 1990, joining two of America's most prominent political families. They split in 2003 in a messy public divorce that played out in the tabloids. They have three daughters.
