80 Entertainers Sign On To Fight Gun Violence Through New Initiative By Julianne Moore
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Actress Julianne Moore is calling on Hollywood to help end gun violence in the United States.
Citing "the daily increase of gun violence in our beautiful country," Moore announced the formation of the Everytown Creative Council on Tuesday.
The actress described the council as an effort to organize the creative community to amplify the message of the movement to end gun violence.
A total of 80 entertainers have signed on, including Alec Baldwin, Mindy Kaling, Yoko Ono, Jennifer Lawrence and Spike Lee.
The group aims to mobilize voters to support measures such as enhanced background checks for gun buyers.
Moore said she and her colleagues are saddened by the increase in daily gun violence the country has seen in recent years.
The Everytown Creative Council is affiliated with Everytown for Gun Safety, which was founded by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
