NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The daughter of late comedian Joan Rivers has hired a law firm to investigate the clinic where Rivers went into cardiac arrest.

The move could lead to the filing of a multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic on the Upper East Side, CBS 2 reported.

Rivers, 81, went into cardiac arrest at Yorkville Endoscopy Aug. 28 following a minor, elective vocal cord procedure. Her doctor reportedly performed an unscheduled biopsy during the procedure.

The comedian's vocal cords seized, a condition called laryngospasm, and cut off her air supply, according to reports.

She died a week later at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The New York City Medical Examiner's Office said Rivers' suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.

The clinic has since been placed under investigation by the New York State Department of Health.
