Study: NY's Airports Most Delayed In The Nation
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new study finds the New York-metropolitan area's three major airports were the most delayed in the country last year.
New York City's John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, and New Jersey's Newark Liberty International airport came in last among the nation's 29 major airports for overall on-time performance, according to the Global Gateway Alliance.
"These findings confirm what we've long known – New York's airports are the most delayed in the nation," Joe Sitt, Chairman and Founder of Global Gateway Alliance, said. "And it's only getting worse for millions of passengers."
Sitt is the founder of the alliance, which is promoting improvements at the three airports. He said expanding a satellite-based technology called NextGen would dramatically decrease delays.
Nearly 77 percent of planes arriving or departing from JFK were on time in 2015. LaGuardia was the worst, with just under 71 percent of flights being on time. Seventy-five percent of flights leaving or landing at Newark were on time.
There was no response from the Port Authority which operates the airports.
