Jets Sign Draft Picks Hackenberg, Peake

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Jets now have five of their seven draft picks under contract after second-round quarterback Christian Hackenberg and seventh-round wide receiver Charone Peake signed contracts, the team announced Thursday.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Hackenberg never missed a start in three seasons at Penn State. He was the Big Ten freshman of the year in 2013, when he threw for 20 touchdowns and 2,955 yards in 12 games. Hackenberg's production dipped the following season, throwing for 12 TDs and 15 interceptions along with 2,977 yards in 13 games. Last season, he passed for 2,525 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He is regarded as a pro-style dropback, pocket passer with a strong arm, but was sacked 104 times in three seasons and there are questions about his mobility. His overall abilities have been widely scrutinized over the last two years.

Peake played at Clemson, where he caught 50 passes for 716 yards and five touchdowns last season.

The 6-foot-2-inch wideout ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Last week, the Jets signed cornerback Juston Burris (fourth round), offensive tackle Brandon Shell (fifth round) and punter Lachlan Edwards (seventh round). That leaves first-round pick Darron Lee and third-round selection Jordan Jenkins, both linebackers, as the team's only unsigned draft picks.
