Jets' Richardson, Marshall Subjects Of NFL Trade Deadline Rumors

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NFL trade deadline is usually uneventful compared to those of other sports, but with one day remaining, there are a few rumors swirling around involving the Jets and Giants.

On Sunday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that teams have been calling the Jets about defensive end Sheldon Richardson.

The Jets drafted defensive end Leonard Williams in the first round last season and signed Muhammad Wilkerson to a five-year, $86 million contract in July.

"It's big business. That's what it is," Richardson told Newsday Sunday, just after hearing about the speculation for the first time. "We've got a surplus of defensive linemen that are capable of being starters."

Sources, however, told Newsday teams are unlikely to meet the Jets' asking price due to Richardson's off-the-field issues.

Richardson has 1½ sacks and 28 tackles this season.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated reported that the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in trading for Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall, who has 34 receptions for 540 yards and two touchdowns this season, told reporters Sunday he hopes he remains a Jet.

"I would be disappointed if I was traded," the 32-year-old wideout said. "I love it here. I want to finish what we started here with coach Todd Bowles."

Meanwhile, the Giants are being mentioned as a possible landing spot for 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley or Browns tackle Joe Thomas. Cleveland coach Hue Jackson, however, insisted last week that Thomas won't be dealt.

Pro Football Talk reported that the 49ers are looking for a first-round draft pick for Staley.

The offensive line has been a problem for the Giants, who average just 3.3 yards per rush.

The trade deadline is at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
