Prosecutor: Jersey City Couple's Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The deaths of a couple found inside their Jersey City home have been ruled a murder-suicide, but it's not yet clear what sparked the incident, prosecutors said.

Police officers found the bodies around 7 a.m. Tuesday after they responded to the four-story Summit Avenue home.

Raymond S. Haddad, 54, and Monica L. Haddad, 44, were found dead from gunshot wounds, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

Hudson County authorities said a weapon was found at the residence, but they declined further comment on the deaths, citing the ongoing investigation.

Prosecutors said they believe the husband shot his wife and then himself.

A former tenant said the longtime couple had "normal fights" and is shocked by the violence.

"Issues with the kids, issues with marriage. We used to have barbecues in the back, I would never think she would have to fear for her life...so this is a complete shock," the ex-tenant said. "They were just good people, that's why I'm very, very shocked."

The couple has two adult sons, who were not believed to be home at the time of the shooting, Schuck reported.
