Broncos Take Advantage After Disputed Catch Call Early In Super Bowl 50

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It sure looked like Jerricho Cotchery caught the football. But as is often the case in the NFL, looks can be deceiving.

In what could be a play with huge ramifications in Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos scored on a sack and strip of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the first quarter on Sunday not long after officials ruled Cotchery's catch on an earlier play incomplete.

The Panthers challenged the incomplete pass as replays showed that it appeared Cotchery got his hands under the football when he went tumbling to the ground for what would have been a 24-yard completion.

However, the incomplete call was upheld.

Two plays later, the Broncos' Von Miller stripped Newton and Malik Jackson recovered the ball in the end zone to help put Denver up 10-0.
