1 Hurt In NJ Shooting Involving Off-Duty Corrections Officer, Authorities Say
IRVINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating an early morning shooting involving an off-duty Essex County corrections officer in Irvington.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said the officer discharged his weapon in the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
It's unclear what exactly led to the shooting. One person was struck and suffered non-life threatening injuries, Murray said. The person was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Around 6 a.m., Chopper 2 was over Springfield Avenue and Grove Street where police vehicles could be seen and NJ TRANSIT said buses were being rerouted around that area due to police activity.
