Inclusive Immigration Policy A Hot Topic At Hofstra Summit
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Inclusive immigration policy was the topic of a summit at Long Island's Hofstra University Friday.
Attorney and immigration advocate Patrick Young points to the numbers that he says are evidence of the need for inclusive immigration policy
"They're here creating jobs, they're here contributing to the tax base and in fact, if we didn't have the new immigrants that are coming here, Long Island would have had a net population loss over the last 20 years," he told WCBS 880's Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
Among the hundreds participating in the immigration summit was Long Island Jewish Health System President Michael Dowling, himself an immigrant. Advocates urged the approval of the president's immigration policy, including Long Island Wins summit sponsor Maryann Slutsky, who said we need immigrants.
"There are more immigrant entrepreneurs on Long Island then there are native born entrepreneurs," she said.
