Hutchinson River Parkway southbound lanes closed in New Rochelle after deadly crash

Driver killed in overnight crash on Hutchinson River Parkway

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A deadly crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway shut down the southbound lanes Tuesday morning in New Rochelle. 

Westchester County Police say a driver was killed when a vehicle went off the road and hit an electrical utility box around 3 a.m. near Mill Road. 

The victim's name has not been released.

All southbound lanes were closed for the morning commute, and traffic was being detoured to Wilmont Road. 

Drivers could get back on the parkway at Mill Road, but they had to go through at least three lights, which caused delays around the area. 

There was no word on when the roadway would reopen. For an alternate route, take the New England Thruway or the Bronx River Parkway.
