Hunters' Gunshots Cause Scare, Prompt Lockdown Of NJ Middle School
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Middlesex County school was placed on lockdown Tuesday following reports of gunshots in the area.
The shots were fired at around 10:15 a.m. and heard by a teacher on the second floor of the Monroe Township Middle School, police said.
Police responded and entered the school. The principal then decided to place the school on lockdown as a precaution.
After doing an interior sweep of the school, officers determined it was safe.
At the same time, responding officers checking the area around the school found hunters in the woods adjacent to the soccer complex.
The hunters were lawfully on the property and posed no threat to the staff and students, police said.
