Multiple people in custody after human remains found in Long Island park, sources say
AMITYVILLE, N.Y. -- Multiple people were taken into custody in connection with the discovery of human remains in Babylon Village on Long Island, sources told CBS New York on Tuesday.
Since Thursday, police have discovered body parts in Babylon Village's Southards Pond Park, Bethpage State Park and a wooded area in West Babylon.
Suffolk Police say they know who they belong to: A 59-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man who shared an address in Yonkers. Their names are being withheld until the family is notified.
All of it is connected somehow to a house on Railroad Avenue in Amityville, where Suffolk Police executed a search warrant Monday night.
"SWAT team, detectives, mobile command center, road cut off," one neighbor said. "The people are nice. You see people walking their dogs, and children. So that's crazy."
"Nothing really ever happens on this block," Amityville resident Rafael Urena said.

Amityville resident Meri Stewart first saw police Monday night, but didn't think much of it until Tuesday morning.
"The cops were still there, so I was a little scared. I didn't know what was going on, I had no clue it would have been connected to the body parts case," Stewart said. "It's too close to home."
There was a flurry of activity Tuesday at the two-family home linked to the disturbing discovery last week of dumped body parts.
Remains were first found on the perimeter of Babylon Village's Southards Pond Park. Officials said a high school student made the initial discovery. A cadaver dog turned up more, including a severed head, legs, an arm of a female victim, the tattooed arms of a male victim, fingertips removed.
"It's very scary. Hits close to home," Nicole Bonisgnore said when the remains were first discovered. "For a child or an adult to find body parts, it's very disturbing."
Tuesday, there were two more grisly finds linked to other body parts, including a human torso found near Bethpage State Park, and more remains found in a wooded area in West Babylon. Police believe the remains belong to the same two victims.
Neighbors of the Amityville home said they often heard fighting inside, but on the outside, all appeared peaceful.
"They're really nice. They're always walking puppies. I've got kids, small kids, so everything looks safe," one neighbor siad.
No human remains were found at the Amityville location, police said.
They added that, based on their investigation, it appears to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.
Law enforcement sources tell us there has been at least one arrest. Others are being questioned.
