History On Long Island: Jagr Nets 700th Goal; Devils Hammer Islanders

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He's only the seventh player to ever do it.

Jaromir Jagr notched the 700th goal of his illustrious career on Saturday during the Devils' 6-1 rout of the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

The historic moment came 3:31 into the second period. Jagr cut from the right boards into the slot and took a wrist shot that caromed off an Islander's skate and past screened goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. The goal, Jagr's 19th of the season, gave the playoff-hopeful Devils a 2-0 lead.

Jagr later added an assist on Marek Zidlicky's power-play goal that gave New Jersey a 4-1 lead in the middle period.

New Jersey carried a 5-1 advantage into the third.

In his 22nd NHL season, Jagr, 42, joins an all-time goal-scoring club that includes Wayne Gretzky (894), Gordie Howe (801), Brett Hull (741), Marcel Dionne (731), Phil Esposito (717) and Mike Gartner (708).

Jagr's 1,740 points also rank seventh all-time.
