Hillary Clinton Finally Speaks, But Doesn't Address Second Private Email Account Claim

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – There are new questions about Hillary Clinton and her use of private emails. Republicans are now accusing her of using a second one while secretary of state.

On Tuesday the Democratic candidate for president stepped in front of cameras and spoke about the scandal, CBS2s Dick Brennan reported.

"I have said repeatedly I want those emails out," Clinton said.

Campaigning in Iowa, Clinton made a rare appearance before the press, and responded to new developments in her email controversy.

The State Department has said it needs until January 2016 to release 55,000 pages of her emails, but a judge rejected that timeline Tuesday as part of a federal lawsuit. He is demanding they be released on a rolling basis.

Asked if she will demand the release of the emails, Clinton said, "Well, they're not mine. They belong to the State Department so the State Department has to go through its process. But as much as they can expedite the process, that's what I'm asking them to do. Please move as quickly as they possibly can to get them out."

However, Clinton did not address the newest accusations from the Republican National Committee that she used not one but two private email accounts to conduct State Department business.

Campaign aides said a second email address was only created after she left the State Department.

Clinton's appearance before the press was her first in 28 days, and it came after a drum roll of criticism from opponents.

"How can you run for President of the United States and never be asked a question?" Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham said.

"You can't script your way to the presidency," GOP candidate Jeb Bush added.

The question now is what do the new revelations mean for the Clinton campaign?

"She wants to bury 'emailgate' and she's not going to be able to do that as long as there are proceedings. And now we know it's certainly going to take longer to get all of the documentation made available to everybody who wants to look at it. And that's going to mean this going to be a live story into the summertime and beyond," Baruch College pundit David Birdsell said.

Clinton answered only five questions from reporters. One was about her wealth. She has earned $25 million for 104 speeches since January 2014. She said that won't make it harder for her to connect with everyday Americans on the campaign trail, Brennan reported.
