Hempstead Residents Worried About Proposed Green Waste Transfer Station
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some Long Island residents are ready to fight a waste-handling complex.
Fildon LLC of Hempstead and Don Cristi LLC of Inwood told Newsday they want to place a green waste transfer station on a decontaminated brownfield site at Sewell and Mirschel streets in Hempstead.
The companies say the work would be contained and monitored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
The location is zoned industrial, but there are homes nearby. Neighbors are concerned about traffic, odor and dust, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported.
The Planning Board will consider the proposal June 15.
