Hazmat crews respond after 75-year-old man found dead inside Brooklyn apartment
NEW YORK -- Police are investigating after a 75-year-old man's body was found Thursday inside a Brooklyn apartment.
Hazmat crews worked through the day clearing the site.
The FBI and hazmat unit were called when officers conducting a welfare check found suspicious chemicals inside the apartment on 101st Avenue in Cypress Hills.
Investigators believe the man may have been dead for a week before his body was discovered.
A worker at a nearby store said he was a kind man.
"He spent a lot of time being nice to others, and he would always make sure he had a couple dollars in his pocket to give to people if they asked him for it," she said.
The medical examiner will determine how the man died.
Investigators said air quality tests determined the air was not dangerous. Nothing in the apartment was deemed toxic.
