'Harlem Kevorkian' Accepts New Plea Deal In LI Motivational Speaker's Death

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The man known as the "Harlem Kevorkian" pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday.

Kenneth Minor, 41, admitted to stabbing a stranger, motivational speaker and self-help author Jeffrey Locker, to death on an East Harlem street in 2009. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in 2011, but his conviction was later overturned.

Minor has claimed Locker was despondent and asked for his help in staging his own death so his family could collect life insurance.

Investigators found evidence that Locker, 52 -- of East Woodmere, Long Island -- planned his death.

This past February, Minor turned down a plea offer involving a 14-year sentence. The new plea deal involves a 12-year sentence.
