NYPD Has 'Plans In Each And Every Precinct' For Halloween

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New York Police Department is taking measures to make sure Halloween in the city will be a treat, without any nasty tricks.

"There are plans in each and every precinct," Commissioner James O'Neill said. "We will make sure we have as many police officers out there as possible to keep people safe."

The commanding officer of each of the 77 precincts will be on duty from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Extra police will also be on hand Monday for the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, which marches up 6th Avenue from Canal to 15th Street.

"Last year we had 1.3 million spectators at the parade," Chief of Patrol Terrence Monahan said. "So we will be having a detail over there. We will have our usual counterterrorism overlay, we will have seen and unseen resources working throughout the parade."

The NYPD has also promised a "no tolerance policy'' for any potential pranksters on Monday.

"We're going to have a lot of resources out there," Monahan said. "If there's acts of vandalism we'll be able to respond to it very quickly."

Police on Staten Island are urging local stores to refrain from selling eggs and shaving cream to minors, the Staten Island Advance reported. Residents have been asked to notify authorities if they're concerned about misbehavior or criminal activity.
