Vigil To End Gun Violence Held In Brooklyn Ahead Of Sandy Hook Anniversary
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Activists and gun violence survivors kicked off a weekend of events around New York City to commemorate the upcoming third anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting.
A sea of people dressed in orange, the symbol of gun violence prevention, sang songs for peace at Congregation Mount Sinai Synagogue in Brooklyn.
Diana Rodriguez, with the group Mothers Demand Action, lost her daughter when she was shot and murdered 10 years ago. She's been an activist for gun control ever since.
"Going to Albany, speaking to legislators," she told WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini. "Hasn't really been much change."
Rodriguez said it took the deaths of 20 innocent children and six teachers at Sandy Hook to start bringing about gun reform, but she said tragedies like the San Bernardino shooting are proof lawmakers still need to do more.
"It makes you feel like they don't care," she said.
The mothers will continue their push this weekend with a march to end gun violence in Central Park.
