Guide To Mets' Opening Day Festivities At Citi Field
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's opening day!
Whether you're going to the game or just parking on the couch, you'll want to know what's going on prior to 1:10 p.m., when the Mets and Nationals officially get the season started at Citi Field:
-- The Mets will honor late broadcaster Ralph Kiner during a pregame tribute. Public relations chief Jay Horwitz says fans should be in their seats by 12:30 p.m. for Monday's ceremony, which will include a video and the unveiling of a Kiner logo on the left-field wall. The Hall of Famer died in February at age 91.
-- The national anthem will be performed by The Whiptones from Hanover Township, N.J. The teenage doo-wop quartet won an offseason competition put on by the Mets.
-- First pitch? That'll be hurled by none other than New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. He'll be joined by six kids from East Harlem who were affected by a building collapse in their neighborhood earlier this month.
-- "God Bless America" honors go to Terence Archie, who plays Apollo Creed in Broadway's "Rocky." He'll get the microphone during the seventh-inning stretch.
THE 7 LINE INVADES CITI -- PERMANENTLY!
If you're a fan of the Amazin's, you probably know of The 7 Line, an apparel brand founded by Long Island native Darren Meenan.
He'll have the Big Apple Reserve filled -- again -- with members of "The 7 Line Army" on Monday. But this time Meenan will be staying put -- for the whole season.
Earlier this month, Meenan announced a licensing deal with Major League Baseball, which includes a kiosk at Citi Field behind his group's section near the Shake Shack in center field.
"While printing t-shirts in my parents basement back in 2010 I never imagined the brand would have enough steam to get to this level," he wrote on his website. "It's taken years of hard work and dedication, and I pinch myself daily that this is in fact a 'job'."
