Greenburgh To Be First In Westchester To Outfit Police With Body Cameras

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Greenburgh is first law enforcement agency in Westchester County that has formally committed to outfitting each patrol officer with body cameras.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said the decision follows a successful pilot program that tested various body cameras on officers last year.

"It's not going to be a, 'He says, she says.' When you have the body cameras you know exactly what happened," he told WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini.

Feiner said the town has ordered about 60 cameras to ensure there is one for every patrol officer on a particular shift. The supervisor said the change should enhance the strong bond he says the Greenburgh community already has with its police force.

"We're not waiting for an incident," he said. "We're trying to be proactive."

Feiner said police officers should be wearing their new cameras in February.
