Police: Driver Who Struck Man May Not Have Seen Victim On Dark Greenburgh Road
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- At a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, police said that the driver who struck and killed a 23-year-old man in Greenburgh, might not have seen the victim walking.
It was a dark, rainy night and Darrell Chung was walking on narrow South Road, 1010 WINS Al Jones reported.
"We don't know if, they realize that they struck someone. There was inclement weather last night, the lighting in the area. It may have been a little dark," Greenburgh Police Chief Chris McInerny said.
Chung was pronounced dead at the scene, and police were working to determine if he was the victim of a hit-and-run.
Chung died on the grass across from Glen Gordon's house. Gordon woke up when police pounded on his door.
"We heard loud banging on the front door, and I could see that the person was on the sidewalk, I mean on the shoulder of the road," Gordon said.
