Goethals Bridge Signs Misspelled On Staten Island Expressway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New signs are turning heads on the Staten Island Expressway.

The word "Goethals" is spelled wrong. The "O" and "E" are flipped.

One sign is on the New Jersey-bound side approaching the Richmond Avenue exit.

Social media users were quick to comment on how much the mistake might've cost taxpayers.

CBS2 sent cameras out to investigate Monday and found two other signs with the same error.

A New York State Department of Transportation spokesperson told CBS2 the signs will be fixed "within the next few days at the contractor's expense."
