Infant In Stroller Killed By SUV Jumping Curb In The Bronx, Driver Did Not Have License

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An infant child in a stroller has been killed by an out-of-control SUV in the Bronx.

Chopper 2 and emergency responders were at the scene near White Plains Road and East 216th Street in the Olinville section around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle reportedly jumped the curb and the stroller was pinned between the SUV and a building.

Surveillance video obtained by CBS2's Reena Roy recorded the white SUV suddenly veer off the road and career onto the Bronx curb -- striking the stroller.

FDNY officials say when EMTs arrived, the child had already been rushed by a parent to an area hospital by private means.

Authorities tell CBS2 that child, a one-year-old girl, did not make it to the hospital alive.

"The car just swerved off the road and slammed right into the stroller... Oh god it was very heartbreaking to see that of a child... a little baby," witness Beverly Taylor said.

The driver remained at the scene after the accident, but did not have a license.

That man was later taken to an area hospital and investigators believe he may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. Authorities are still working to confirm that.
