Giant Tortoises Debut At Bronx Zoo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - "Aldabra" cadabra!
Two Geochelone gigantean - better known as giant Aldabra tortoises - made their debut Thursday at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo.
The two males weigh in at 400 and 600 pounds.
They can live up to 200 years or more.
Aldabra tortoises come from the Republic of Seychelles. They're listed as a vulnerable species. Experts believe there are some 100,000 of them left in the wild.
The only other remaining giant tortoise species is the Galapagos tortoise.
