Gas Leak Shuts Down Flatbush Avenue, Belt Parkway Exit In Southern Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An exit on the Belt Parkway at Flatbush Avenue in far southern Brooklyn was closed Thursday night, after a gas leak erupted.

A construction crew was working at 290 Flatbush Ave., alongside Marine Park, when they struck a gas main, around 9:50 p.m., officials told CBS 2.

No one was injured, but the westbound-eastbound exit of the Belt Parkway at Flatbush Avenue was closed following the main break.

Flatbush Avenue itself was also closed between the Belt Parkway and Avenue U.

There are no homes in the area.

By 10:42 p.m., the valve had been shut off by National Grid and the incident was under control.
