Freeport Celebrates 'Doggie Dining' Law With Pet-Friendly Lunch

FREEPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- New York's new "doggie dining" law will be celebrated Thursday with a special event in Freeport, Long Island.

Village Mayor Robert Kennedy will join dozens of dogs -- and their human companions -- for lunch.

The new law allows dogs on leashes to dine with their owners at most outdoor cafes -- if the restaurant allows it.

One Freeport restaurant -- Hudson's on the Mile -- is also getting ready to unveil its new menu especially for our four-legged friends.

New York City restaurants were previously required to restrict dogs to the area outside the patio railing.
