NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Residents of the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn have set up a "Dog Walkers Hall of Shame," in an effort to catch those who fail to clean up after their pets on video or camera and post them online.

As 1010 WINS' Holli Haerr reported, plenty of people walk their dogs on tree-lined South Oxford Street near Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. One neighbor, Jean, is among many who have noticed that some people do not pick up after their pets.

"It's unsanitary, and, you know, there are a lot of little kids around here, and you know, people can step in it; it smells bad," she said.

The president of the South Oxford Block Association, Abby Weissman, just so happened to catch a woman leaving her dog's poop behind on video.

"There was this giant thing sitting on the sidewalk," he told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola.

Weissman then checked his webcam and found the culprit -- a woman with a large dog, who does its business before the two walk away.

The clip was posted to Facebook, and the block club president said others can catch irresponsible dog owners in the act, too.

"It's not like I'm anti-dog," said Weissman, who has written about how important it is for people to protect their homes with webcams. "It's just I'm anti-people that don't clean up."

One woman, Monica, was walking three dogs on the block and had plenty of bags with her.

"It's not right for people not to pick up. Whenever I see crap that's not picked up – pardon the word – I actually pick it up myself. I don't want anyone else to get mad at my dogs."
