Fliers Apparently Recruiting For Porn Studio Appear On New Rochelle College Campuses
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The fliers put up near college campuses in New Rochelle looked like any other until people got a close look – a porn producer was apparently looking for new players.
As CBS2's Lou Young reported, the signs promised cash for performing in adult videos – to the tune of $3,000 a scene. Police began pulling down the signs after multiple citizen complaints.
"Porn! It's like prostitution," said Irma McClellan of New Rochelle. "It's porn!"
"This is not right, especially for college students," said college student David De Jesus.
The posters have been found all over town. One was even picked up in the lobby of the New Rochelle Police Department, but the porn recruiters seem focused on the college campuses in the area -- especially Iona and Monroe.
There was a phone number on the fliers where applicants 18 to 35 were asked to ask for "Jasmine," but "Jasmine" does not answer the phone.
"Leave me your number and I'll get back to you," a woman's voice says on a message when one calls the number. "Bye!"
But the mailbox is full. What you get back is a text, "Hey it's Jazzy, the producer from Hood Bang Video U called?"
Some suggest the lure of easy money and ill-advised adventure might be tempting to some young people.
"Me personally, I wouldn't do it but," said college student Dallas Buzemore. "Some people will take the $3,000 and do it."
One student, who did not want his name used, said he met the mysterious "Jasmine" in person, and passed on her offer.
"When you're whole body's out there and, like, someone sees you? Like, would you want your grandma seeing that? I mean, just think about that – no. No," the student said.
The student said "Jasmine" came right up to him.
"She just gave me a flier and it looked like her, I heard someone say her name -- about a week ago," he said.
The schools have vowed to keep recruiters off their campuses.
"What I'm going to do this afternoon is send something out to our students letting them know that these signs have been around campus," said Monroe College vice president David Dimond. "They're to be ignored, we're going to pull them down, and any student should come and a see us if they have concern at all. This is not appropriate for our college campus."
The school said it will go for trespassing charges if it catches the recruiters on campus. Police said the fliers were illegally posted, and could result in a fine.
And although there is nothing illegal about advertising for, or participating in, porn productions, a college is free to discipline students who it feels are violating its own rules.
