First Alert Forecast: Yellow Alert in effect through Monday morning commute due to flooding
We're on Yellow Alert through early Monday morning due to storms and heavy rain that caused flooding across the area.
Many of our northern and western suburbs were inundated with torrential rain Sunday. Rain fell at a rate of 2-3 inches per hour in some of these locations, which led to numerous flash flood warnings. There were road closures, water rescues and even a house fire caused by lightning.
Due to all of this, we have issued a Yellow Alert through Monday morning.
A Flood Watch remains in place through 6 a.m. Monday.
Rounds of heavy rain will continue to pivot through the region through the early morning hours of Monday. Average rain totals will range from 1-3 inches, with some areas seeing well in excess of that.
The warm and humid conditions will be ongoing tonight as well. Our low will be 72.
Monday looks to be a much less active day than today. The sun will be more present, and temps will warm up a bit. A chance of showers and storms does return by the afternoon though. These storms are not expected to be as intense or widespread as today. We'll see a high of 84.
