Fire Under Portal Bridge Shuts Down Multiple NJ TRANSIT Lines

SECAUCUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Multiple NJ TRANSIT lines were suspended during the evening rush Monday due to a fire that broke out under the Portal Bridge over the Hackensack River.

The fire beneath the bridge between Kearny and Secaucus, New Jersey, shut down service in and out of New York City for the NJ TRANSIT Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coast Line, and MidTown Direct commuter train lines around 6:45 p.m.

The lines were all back in service by 8:15 p.m., but with delays of 45 minutes to an hour, NJ TRANSIT officials told CBS 2.

No one was injured in the fire under the bridge, which is owned by Amtrak.

Further information about the fire was not immediately available.
