Fire Breaks Out On Water Tank On Roof Of Far West Side High Rise
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire broke out late Friday afternoon on a water tank at the top of a high-rise building on the Far West Side of Manhattan.
The fire broke out at 4:53 p.m. on top of a building in the River Place development on 42nd Street, between Eleventh and Twelfth avenues.
The fire was raging on the wooden water tank inside an enclosure on the roof, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2. The water tank was completely engulfed in flames that circled it in a ring, and firefighters had to get a line up more than 40 stories to the roof.
No injuries were reported.
Police closed 42nd Street between Tenth and Twelfth avenues. The area is close to the Lincoln Tunnel and is especially busy during the Friday afternoon rush.
