Fire Rips Through D'Amigos Restaurant Overnight In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An overnight fire tore through a restaurant and spread to the adjoining businesses in the Bronx, injuring three firefighters.

Video shows fire pouring out of 12 East Gun Hill Road in the Norwood section at D'Amigos bar and grill. The FDNY said it started around 1:30 a.m. It spread to a vacant wig store on one side, and a beauty supply shop on the other.

Hours later, there were tears outside New Color Beauty Supply. The owner says they've been there for nearly 20 years.

"I make 15 years I've been here to make business," one man told CBS2's Alice Gainer. He used to own the vacant wig store too.

Former employees and long time customers came by to try and comfort the owners.

"It broke my heart. I was quite saddened to see it gone up in smoke like that," one person said.

"They're very, very kind people. They treat people very nice," said former employee Eileen Pabon.

"It's devastating. With times like now, nobody deserves to go through this," customer Miriam Velazquez said.

Jorge Polanco told Gainer his daughter owns D'Amigos Bar and Grill.

"This is her first restaurant," he said.

Business owners are now faced with if and how to rebuild.

Three firefighters were taken to local hospitals. All are expected to be OK.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
