Full Schedule Of FDR Drive Closures On Upper East Side
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A series of full closures of the FDR Drive in both directions between 61st Street and 96th Street will take place nightly through July.
These closures are necessary to facilitate construction of new structures – at the East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station and at The Rockefeller University – being built above the roadway, the NYC DOT said. The work is being done during overnight and weekend hours.
The first full closure of the FDR Drive will occur this Saturday, June 11 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. and Sunday, June 12, from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the construction of the East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station.
During the first full closure, the FDR Drive will be closed in both directions from 61st Street to 96th Street, and the traffic will be detoured as follow:
•Northbound FDR Drive: All traffic will exit at 61st Street exit ramp and motorist will be directed to use First Avenue and follow the detour signs to the 96th Street entrance to re-enter the FDR.
•Southbound FDR Drive: All traffic will exit at 116th Street to use Second Avenue and re-enter the FDR Drive at 79th Street.
•The FDR Drive Southbound entrance ramp at 125th street will be closed.
•The FDR Drive Northbound entrance ramps at 34th Street, 48th Street, and 62nd Street will be closed.
The second full closure will occur on Wednesday, June 15 from 12:30 A.M. to 4:30 A.M. for the construction of the Rockefeller University.
During the second full closure, the FDR Drive will be closed in both directions from 61st Street to 96th Street, and the traffic will be detoured as follows:
•Northbound FDR Drive: All traffic will exit at the 61st Street exit ramp and motorist will be directed to use First Avenue and follow the detour signs to the 96th Street entrance to re-enter the FDR.
•Southbound FDR Drive: All traffic will exit at the 96th Street exit ramp and motorists will be directed to use Second Avenue and follow the detour signs to the 42nd Street temporary entrance ramp to re-enter the FDR Drive.
•Motorists approaching from the Third Avenue Bridge will be directed to use Lexington Avenue and follow the detour signs to the 42nd Street temporary entrance ramp to re-enter the FDR Drive.
•The RFK Bridge off-ramp onto the FDR Drive southbound will be closed.
•The Third Avenue Bridge off-ramp onto the FDR Drive southbound will be closed.
•The southbound entrance ramps at 125th Street, 116th Street, 92nd Street, 79th Street and 73rd Street will be closed.
•The FDR Drive Northbound entrance ramps at 34th Street, 48th Street, and 62nd Street will be closed.
A single lane closure will be implemented on the FDR Drive (both directions) at around 11 pm, then a double lane closure will be implemented at 11:30 pm.
During this project, motorists should anticipate delays in the vicinity of the work zones, and should plan accordingly. All work is weather dependent. Work is anticipated to continue into July, and DOT will issue weekly updates to highlight the scheduled closures -- as hours and days are expected to vary.
