Fans Say Goodbye To Roseland Ballroom With Record-Setting Performance By Lady Gaga
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The Roseland Ballroom closed its doors forever on Monday night following a record-setting performance by Lady Gaga.
The pop superstar ended a seven show run with a final goodbye to the iconic music hall, CBS 2's Jessica Schneider reported.
"Everyone is here for one reason. To say 'goodbye', Gaga announced.
Lady Gaga packed the building that has entertained guest for decades. Her father used to attend shows at Roseland as a teenager.
"There's a lot of memories in this place. It's sad to see the place go. It really makes me happy that she's the last one to perform here. She's a New York girl," Joe Germanotta said.
A long list of legends have graced Roseland including Madonna, Beyonce, and The Rolling Stones. The venue even hosted Hillary Clinton's birthday party.
Roseland Ballroom opened in 1919, and moved to 52nd Street in 1956, when it was used as a ballroom for dancing, big band music, and roller skating.
"About 25, 26 years ago, my roommate and I came here for a Halloween roller skating party. We came dressed as Blues Brothers. I can remember going around this ballroom," Germanotta said.
Lady Gaga's fans have their own set of memories from the ballroom.
"My grandparents danced at Roseland. It was considered one of the grandest floors," Jamie Moroni said.
More than 3,000 fans lined up for the final show.
"It's an awesome was to close out for sure. Someone as huge and such a theatrical person as Gaga," Kaitlyn Kelly said.
The owners of Roseland have not confirmed what will happen to the venue, but many have speculated that it could be torn down to make room for luxury housing.
