Ex-Giant Luke Petitgout Out On Bail In N.J. Sex Assault Case

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A former New York Giants player facing a sex assault charge in New Jersey has been released on bail.

Luke Petitgout's attorney said the former offensive lineman was released from the Bergen County Jail on Thursday.

Petitgout was charged Tuesday with assault and sexual assault after an incident early that morning at his home in Woodcliff Lake. His attorney, Patrick J. Jennings, has called the allegations "baseless" and "without merit."

Local police said the assault was committed on a person Petitgout knows, but they haven't provided additional details.

Petitgout's attorney said his client denies the charges and is anxious to see his daughters. He said Petitgout has a court appearance tentatively scheduled for Nov. 19.

Petitgout played college football at Notre Dame and spent eight seasons with the Giants and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
