Eric Young Jr. Says He's OK After Freak Batting Practice Injury
DENVER (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Mets leadoff hitter Eric Young Jr. says he's OK after being hit below the right eye during batting practice Sunday in Colorado.
Young was taken to a hospital to be checked out. According to the Mets, Young was struck when a ball hit by Lucas Duda bounced off the screen.
"I don't know what my symptoms will be (Monday)," Young said after Sunday's 5-1 win over the Rockies. "As of right now, I'm good to go. If need be, they probably could have gotten me in the game later today."
Young was scratched from the lineup Sunday as Juan Lagares batted leadoff and played center field. Chris Young, who had been slated to play center, moved over to left.
New York opens a three-game series against the Marlins in Miami on Monday.
"Anybody that gets hit with a baseball in the head is going to experience some discomfort," Young said. "X-Rays and CT scan came back good. Fortunately, it's just a little headache right now."
Eric Young Jr.'s father is the first base coach for the Rockies.
