Police: Driver Was High On Heroin When He Hit, Killed Pedestrian In Elmwood Park, N.J.
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police believe a man was under the influence of heroin when his Jeep ran up on the sidewalk and killed a pedestrian in Elmwood Park, New Jersey late Friday.
As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, Bergen County investigators alleged Troy Saucier, 24, of Suffern, New York was to blame for the death of Rasim Hida, 65, on Broadway in Elmwood Park just after 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Hida was struck as he walked on Broadway in Elwood Park near a Walgreens drugstore, police said. He was pronounced dead soon afterward at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, police said.
Responding officers found Saucier unresponsive in his Jeep and revived him using Narcan, police said.
Late Saturday, Saucier was facing vehicular homicide and drug charges and was behind bars on $100,000 bail, police said.
