Officials: Elizabeth Cop Fires Gun At Car He Thought Was Trying To Hit Him

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The prosecutor's office is investigating after a police officer in Elizabeth, New Jersey fired a shot at a vehicle that he thought was heading straight for him.

The incident happened Sunday morning on Spring Street.

The person who was behind the wheel of the car fled the scene and remains at large, authorities said.

No one apparently was hit by the gunfire, but authorities have not released further details on the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.

The name of the officer has not been disclosed.

It is standard procedure for the prosecutor's office to investigate all police-involved shootings.
