Eli On WFAN: The Focus Should Be On The 49ers And Nothing Else

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants have looked over-matched over the last month, but Eli Manning says that's just an excuse.

During his weekly spot on Monday, the veteran quarterback told WFAN's Mike Francesa that despite being non-competitive at times the Giants should be better than their 3-6 record.

"We don't know what lies ahead for this season. We do know we have a game this Sunday against the 49ers and we want to win that game," Manning said.

Though Manning was stating what a leader should there's no denying the fact the Giants have been thoroughly dominated during their four-game losing streak. They've been outscored 136-62, and have looked especially bad since their bye week. First they got lit up by Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts at home, and then gave up an incredible 350 yards rushing in a 38-17 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday.

And with San Francisco coming in this Sunday off a rousing overtime win in New Orleans, the Giants might be sitting ducks.

"I think our mindset is just, hey, let's get a win. It's been a long time since we had that feeling in the locker room," said Manning, who threw for 283 yards and a touchdown, but also turned the ball over twice on Sunday. "(We have to) keep grinding. In this league, it's tough. It's tough every week. No one's gonna give you a win."

The one bright spot from Sunday was the continued stellar play of rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who has emerged as a go-to guy in the aftermath of the season-ending knee injury to Victor Cruz.

The 12th overall pick in this year's draft had seven more receptions, for 108 yards, in the loss and now has 19 catches for 298 yards and two touchdowns over his last three games.

"He's got a special set of skills and great speed and runs good routes and has patience," Manning said. "There's good things there. We have to keep trying to get him the ball. He has great play-making ability ... He can be a special player."
