Elderly Woman Killed In Hit And Run On Staten Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An elderly woman is dead after being mowed down by a hit-and-run driver on Staten Island.
It happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night near Purdy and Bradley Avenues in Castleton Corners.
Police say 89-year-old Anastasia Diaz, of Staten Island, was found unconscious and unresponsive with head trauma and injuries to her body.
Diaz had just gotten off an MTA bus and was trying to cross the street with her two sisters when she was hit by a dark-colored 4-door sedan.
She was taken to Richmond University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The driver continued northbound on Bradley Avenue and fled the scene.
"The two sisters that were with her, must have been behind and she went first," said neighbor Anthony Eadicicco. "She got hit, and they were able to not get hit, thank God, it could have been three of them that got hit."
There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
