Woman, Child Killed In NJ House Fire
EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A child and a 65-year-old woman are dead after a fire in New Jersey.
The fire started around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday on a quiet cul-de-sac in Edison.
The two-family home on Jill Court was built in 1985. The fire gutted the left-side unit.
According to sources, a 65-year-old woman and a 5-year-old child died. A family dog was also killed.
Neighbors witnessed a heart-wrenching scene as a teenager arrived in the neighborhood on a school bus.
"I just pray for the family because it is sad, and the poor boy that was coming home from the school bus goes, 'what happened?' I said, 'house on fire.' It was his house, so he went running in the back. I don't know where they put him," neighbor Gina Coligiuro said.
PSEG responded to the incident to shut off gas as a precaution.
The fire is under investigation.
