Edison Man Charged With Arson Following Fire At Rutgers' Busch Campus

NEW JERSEY (CBSNewYork) -- A former Rutgers University student is charged with setting a fire on the central New Jersey campus during the week of finals.

As WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported, the Middlesex County prosecutor's office has charged 21-year-old Shayam Sridhar with second-degree aggravated arson.

Prosecutors allege the Edison man set the fire last Saturday in the Allison Road classroom at Rutgers' Busch Campus in Piscataway.

More than 200 students taking final exams at the time had to be evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Prosecutors said that Sridhar left Rutgers after spending some time as a student this semester, but that he planned to return next month.

Sridhar is being held on $75,000 bail.
