Man Shot By Police During Arrest In East New York, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police shot and wounded a man after he allegedly repeatedly refused their directions in Brooklyn Wednesday.

Around 7:40 a.m., officers from the Emergency Services Unit were executing a search warrant for a gun at 430 Pine St. in East New York, Brooklyn, police said.

Officers went down a narrow outdoor stairway to the basement, and upon opening the door, they were met by the suspect who was wanted in the warrant, police said.

The suspect repeatedly refused to follow the officers' directions, and retreated deeper into the basement, police said.

While attempting to apprehend the man, an officer fired one round at the 32-year-old man and struck him in the lower right leg, police said. The New York Daily News reported that police said the suspect reached under his bed after being told repeatedly not to move.

The suspect was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition was reported as stable, police said.

The detective who fired his weapon was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for observation, police said.
