Police said the 32-year-old victim was pushing the stroller and walking with a man when two men approached them on foot, CBS Chicago reported.

When shots were fired at the man, the mother was hit in the head and arm by gunfire, police said. The shooters then ran into a nearby store, Tucker reported.

She was transported to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where she was pronounced dead, police told CBS Chicago.

Family members who gathered at the hospital identified the victim Nykea Aldridge. She is the cousin of Wade, who recently joined the Chicago Bulls.

Aldridge's aunt, Jolinda Wade, said her niece was at the school Friday to register her children for classes.

Aldridge "wasn't bothering nobody," Jolinda Wade, told reporters. "Just going to register her kids in school, and bullets that fly around and have no name decided to find its way to her head."

Dwyane Wade has been told about the death, family members said. Friday evening, the athlete tweeted about the "senseless" loss.

A relative took custody of the woman's child. Police said they are questioning at least one person in connection with the incident, CBS Chicago reported.
