LI Law Enforcement Considers Adding Police Drones To Force

LONG ISLAND (CBSNewYork) -- You might call police drones "eyes in the sky," and their use is raising eyebrows among local critics.

The New York Civil Liberties Union is expressing concern as police in both Nassau and Suffolk counties plan to institute drone technology into their law enforcement game plan, WCBS 880'm Mike Xirinachs reported.

"You know, we have concerns about security data, and more specifically around its uses," NYCLU director Jason Star said. 

Star says law enforcement officials need to institute a plan to safeguard citizens for potential abuse.

Police have said drones could be used in search and rescue efforts and hostage standoffs.

Long Island law enforcement have not specified exactly when the devices would come into use.
