More Than A Dozen Hurt When NJ TRANSIT Bus Crashed Into Median Near Port Authority Bus Terminal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - More than a dozen people on board an NJ TRANSIT bus were hurt when it crashed into the median on a ramp near the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday.
First responders were called to scene after it happened around 9:30 a.m. The bus had just arrived from Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Fire officials say 14 people were hurt, CBS2's Nick Caloway reports.
"When we arrived on scene, we noticed that the vehicle had sustained a lot of damage to the front part of the vehicle. Unfortunately there were a lot of critical patients inside and outside of the vehicle," EMS Deputy Chief Kevin Ramdayal said. "We had to work with fire operations to gain access into the vehicle where we found multiple patients."
Eleven people were taken to the hospital. The other three were treated on the scene and released.
No other vehicles were involved, but the incident caused the temporary closure of all New Jersey-bound lanes of the Lincoln Tunnel.
The Port Authority is investigating the cause of the crash.
